Sequitur and Oh Look a Squirrel (2016-2017)
Most photographic projects aim to produce a set of pictures that is visually and semantically coherent. They contain images made with an intention and they are edited and sequenced with a goal in mind. On the other hand of the image-making spectrum we have pure snapshots, taken while bumbling around without a worry in the world, in full 19th century flâneur style. If the photo project is like preparing an elaborate multi-course meal, then taking snapshots is like having your hand in the candy jar and enjoying whatever random weirdness you are coming across.
‘Sequitur and Oh Look a Squirrel’ is a collection of snapshots sequenced like a cadavre exquis, with one visual element loosely connecting one photograph to the next. It was fun to make and now I’m off to something entirely different.
